USF WaterGroup contacted Al Norman at Beval Engineering to make changes to our pump assembly department. Our objectives were twofold, and Mr. Norman met them without difficulty.
First, we wanted to convert the pump department into a production line process system. We wanted to save space, increase efficiency and to better respond to production demands. Prior to contacting Mr. Norman, we were assembling our pumps throughout the week and delivering them to the warehouse only on the last two days of the week. However, we wanted to deliver the number and types of pumps required on a daily basis. Thereby, more efficiently meeting the requirements of the warehouse.
Secondly, we wanted to learn the just-in-time "bumping" system so that we could apply it to other areas of the plant.
The project reduced the operational space by 30% and the labour by 25%. The absorption of labour also increased by 25%. In all a very worthwhile project
