Remco Memorials was looking for a new plant layout when we first contacted Al Norman at Beval Engineering. He asked if we were interested in Lean Manufacturing ideas. We had previously looked at some of the lean activities but had not moved past the investigation stage. Since the opportunity was available, we decided to listen to Al's presentation on Lean Manufacturing. After seeing how the lean tools could help us with our production needs, we budgeted the money to go ahead with the transformation to Lean Manufacturing. In just 5 days, the Value Stream team learned about lean tools & techniques and found enough projects to keep us busy for a year. The changes are dramatic. We have eliminated all kinds of waste and plan to reduced our production cycle from 28.5 days to just 6.5 days and we know were there are more savings. We have just started our journey toward lean but we can see great savings now and in the future.
