| Taking an entire department or a few operations that complete a
sub-assembly and defining those activities is how a manufacturing cell is created.
Creating manufacturing cells for your product has several advantages. It will make
the steps involved in assembling your product more visible. From this, the waste can
be easily identified and steps to eliminate the waste are quickly developed. Also,
arranging the cells in the facility will usually generate additional space by making
the work areas organized and tidy. Cells are easier to control and can be viewed as
an independantly budgeted and operated part of the plant. |
